WATER AND SEWER UTILITY TECHNICIAN (I, II, AND III) DEPARTMENT:
PUBLIC WORKS CLASSIFICATION :
FULL-TIME REGULAR, NONEXEMPT GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Entry level work involving the installation, inspection, cleaning and maintenance and repair of water lines, sewer lines, reclaimed water systems, force mains and pumping stations.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Water & Sewer Superintendent or designee.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.
Performs routine maintenance on water distribution, sewer collections systems and reclaimed water irrigation systems.
2.
Installs and repairs water lines, well points, pumps, manholes, and all related facilities.
3.
Digs and refills ditches, loads dirt and construction materials.
4.
Operates fire hydrant in flushing of water lines.
5.
Performs taps on water, sewer and reclaim systems.
6.
Locates buried pipes, valves, etc.

7.
Turns services on and off.
Reads meters.
8.
Maintains, inspects, and repairs pumps.
9.
Repairs leaks on water, sewer and reclaim systems.
10.
Makes entries and assists with entries to permitted confined spaces.
11.
Assists with other divisions within the Public Services Department as needed (These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed.

) MINIMUM
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment used inwater/wastewater facilities maintenance and repair activities.
Ability to communicate verbally using the English language.
Ability to operate equipment.
EDUCATION AND
Experience:
High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
Some of experience in heavy manual labor and the use of hand and light power tools preferred.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
) LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATION:
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying.
Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrective lenses).
Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
Ability to communicate orally.
